Just when we were beginning to get over the news that Sim Shagaya, founder and CEO of Konga.com, the giant of West Africas ecommerce space, resigned from the company earlier this month, we get slammed with some more shock therapy!
Today Jumia, Kongas biggest competitor in the Nigerian ecommerce space, announced that Sim Shagaya would be taking over as the CEO of Jumia Africa. With effect from 5th April, 2016, Sim Shagaya will be taking over from Jeremy Doutte and Nicolas Martin, the co-CEO's of Jumia. This is all the more interesting since both Jeremy and Nicolas just resumed in their position as co-CEO last December!
According to Jeremy Hodara co-CEO, Africa Internet Group and MD, Rocket Internet France said that " Sim's vast expertise and experience are valuable in building on the ideals and long term objectives of the company. So Yes, we are excited about the prospects of working with him."
Sim Shagaya has remained unavailable to answer questions. Meanwhile, Shola Adekoya, COO at Konga has been pegged to take over his job till the board appoints a new CEO, while Sim Shagaya would sit on the board with a role that would require him to focus more on the long term vision and strategy of the company, amongst other more board related matters.
Sim Shagaya founded Konga in 2012 and Konga has since grown to become a major player in the Nigerian and West African ecommerce industry.
