Flex is a sleek disc-shaped blood blocker which is being touted as an alternative to tampons that will allow women to have sex during their period.
Flex is disposable and can be worn for up to 12 hours and even comes in a stylish little packet. Flex is doctor approved and hypoallergenic, BPA-free and is not associated with risk of TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome is a condition that is considered a risk associated with the use of regular tampons). Good thing, 'cause according to the CEO, Lauren Schulte, Flex is so comfy that women who have tried it say they forget they are on their period while wearing it.
Flex is based in San Francisco and funded by Amplify LA. The company participated in the Y Combinator's Fellowship Virtual Demo Day, where CEO, Schulte said, "We've built a product that allows couples to increase their opportunity to have sex by 23 percent. The tragedy of people avoiding sex on their period is that this is really the time when women want it most".
Flex claims that 25% of it trial signups are from men!
There are already several products in the market, like Softcups, that provide a similar experience for users however, Flex is the only one tht is focused on portability or sex.
The Flex company will be open for pre-orders in the US in April 2016 and is expected to eventually be available in stores. Over 20,000 people have already signed up to try it.
Thanks to companies like Flex women the world over will be able to keep smiling all month long!
