Introducing Easy Account by FCMB

This week FCMB launched a new product FCMB Easy Account. Its a product that provides self-service, stress free banking by USSID technology.
Easy Account is available on all GSM networks and is accessible countrywide. People can open an account, even in areas where there's no physical branch of
FCMB using an enhanced version of USSID technology and it doesn't require internet connectivity.
FCMB says Easy Account is designed to make banking accessible to all Nigerians and promote financial inclusion for more Nigerians. It is a product open to all, particularly to meet the needs of low-income earners and the unbanked segment of the society. It enables the account holders to have access to convenient and secured financial services, irrespective of their locations.
Easy Account customers can send and receive money across all banks in Nigeria. They can also deposit funds into their accounts at over 100,000 agents and banking locations of FCMB and other banks and mobile money operators in Nigeria. FCMB Easy account customers can also use their accounts for airtime purchase, bill payments, and other payments. All of this can be done using their *329# code.
It sounds like FCMBs take on Diamond banks Diamond Yellow Account, and GTBs even bigger *2018# product, which is already doing all the things Easy Account is supposed to do for users. Given FCMBs efforts to partner with Yabacon to achieve a technical edge over its competitors, we honestly expected a more disruptive product or at least more exciting features.
However, we'd love to review this product to see how much of an improvement on the current use of USSID technology it is and how it will fair competing with its counterparts to attract the unbanked.
