Whatsapp wants to fight fake news by stamping out all knock-off versions of the product that violate the companies terms of service.
Anyone using an unsupported version of Whatsapp will soon receive an in-app message stating that their account has been temporarily banned. The message will look like this:
Your phone is banned from using WhatsApp. Contact support for help.
Affected users who want to be reconnected to the service will have to download the official app to continue to use WhatsApp.
Affected apps include WhatsApp Plus, GB WhatsApp and other altered versions of WhatsApp that allow users to add different themes or styles. IOW, the ones with all the fun stuff!
If you’ve been using one of these third-party apps you run the risk of loosing all your chat history when you switch over to the official version of the app. To prevent this from happening, backup your chat history before making the switch. For instructions on how to do this go to the WhatsApp FAQ page on your version of the app.
If you have any challenges with making the switch to the official version of WhatsApp, contact support at android_web@support.whatsapp.com for android users, and iphone_web@support.whatsapp.com for iPhone users.
Goodluck!
